THE BLUE GREEN HILLS OF EARTHOur spring concerts will be on Saturday, May 22 at 3 p.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Cave Junction and Sunday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Newman United Methodist Church in Grants Pass. The name of our choir honors the three beautiful blue rivers that wind through our verdant valleys. In this concert series we will pay homage to water and earth and the beauty that surrounds us here every day. “The Blue Green Hills of Earth” a part of “Missa Gaia” first performed by the Paul Winter consort; “Golden Meadows” translated from the German, by Antonin Dvorak; and “I Share Creation”, by Bob Chilcott based on words written in Chinese in 2500 B.C. are among the musical offerings. Poetry by Wendell Berry, “I Go Among Trees”, and Paul Laurence Dunbar, “The River Sleeps Beneath the Sky”, turned into gorgeous songs by Giselle Wyers and Mary Lynn Lightfoot will be performed by the choir. The familiar hymn “For the Beauty of the Earth”, arranged by John Rutter as well as “Down to the River to Pray”; and “Rain, Rain, Beautiful Rain” by Joseph Shabalala, recorded by Ladysmith Black Mambazo will be included, along with much more music to remind us about the glorious place we call home. Joining the choir will be pianist Nancy Hodgson, Tim Wallace on woodwinds and Michelle LeComte on guitar. Tickets are available at Aquarius Book and Gifts, 528 N.E. E Street in Grants Pass.
